Copywriter and Content Creator

About Me

My name is Taylor Kempema, a copywriter, editor, and content creator based in Iowa. Welcome to my website!

I began my copywriting, content creation, and online marketing service in 2019. My goal is to help bring new customers and audiences to your business or website. Through exceptional and powerful content and copy that inspires action, I can also help grow your existing audience.

  • Does your business, service, or website need articles or blog posts that are well-received, widely shared, and commented upon?

  • Do you have a great product or service, an innovative solution to a common problem, or a brand you want to popularize and market to potential customers?

  • Is your business or service technical in nature and need a copywriter to distill the technical content into a concise, informative, and engaging piece of writing?

Whatever your goals, I’d like to help achieve them for you.

I have over four years of professional copywriting, research, editing, and content creation experience. For over four years, I wrote about and researched American politics and government, public policy, and energy and environmental issues for Ballotpedia, the Encyclopedia of American Politics.

I hold B.A.s in Political Science and History from Northwestern College (IA) and an M.A. in Politics from Hillsdale College (MI).

I also hold an ACES Certificate in Editing from the Poynter Institute and the American Copy Editors Society (ACES).

RESUME

JANUARY 2018-PRESENT

In addition to my copywriting and content creation, I work closely with a local home fashion business in managing social media marketing and writing/editing a monthly e-mail newsletter for over 350 subscribers. I also provide as-needed administrative support and content marketing strategy to the company owner.

Throughout the year, I assist M.A. and Ph.D. students to meet style and formatting guidelines before they publish theses and dissertations.

JUNE 2013-DECEMBER 2017

As a staff writer at Ballotpedia.org from September 2014 to December 2017, I worked to create and manage the donor-sponsored Environmental Policy Project, a comprehensive, nonpartisan encyclopedia of environmental policy at Ballotpedia as part of its then-new Public Policy Project. I worked with a team on researching, organizing, writing, and editing over 220 in-depth articles explicitly designed to educate the general reader on energy and environmental policy. I also frequently contributed to Ballotpedia's daily newsletter, The Daily Brew, and the weekly newsletter The Tap.

Beginning in June 2017, I worked closely with fellow writers and a senior external editor to research, write, and publish high-quality fact-check articles for Ballotpedia's Fact Check desk.

Before full-time writing, I served as an assistant staff writer at Ballotpedia while completing my M.A. degree. I worked on a small team that completed a donor-sponsored project to summarize ballot access requirements for federal and state-level candidates and political parties, which became an authoritative Internet resource for state and federal candidates seeking ballot access.
